Cancelled per City of Miami Beach advisory for public events in March and early April.
Our second collaboration with Dana Keith and the Miami Beach Film Society. The comedic struggle and complexities in making a silent movie is illustrated by a determined director and his outrageous entourage in this movie making satire from Mel Brooks.
Brooks makes his debut as the star in his own films, playing the 1920s movie director surrounded by the newfound obstacles of the craft. As part of the slew of 1970s films about the film industry (including others such as Nickelodeon, Day of the Locust, Valentino, The Wild Party) Silent Movie was the first “silent movie” since Chaplin’s Modern Times in 1936. It also has the distinction of having “the fewest words in a sound film” according to the Guinness Book of World Records. There is only one word spoken, but we won’t reveal what that word is…
You need to come and see and listen for yourself! With live music from our string quartet.
